Event Description The Artists Group Tuesday Nights is inviting Ramona’s Art lovers to an Art Exhibition of works based on examinations of the traditions of giving and receiving. The Title of this falls exhibition is the Gift and the box it came in. “Tuesday Nights” is an Art Workshop for local creative types, facilitated by Artist Helen Wilson. Each Workshop is built around a project idea. The projects end in an exhibition. Mostly this is a way to advance creative skills while socializing with others of your artistic ilk. We began gifting 3 months ago by creating small art gifts and leaving them at undisclosed locations around our community to be taken or re-gifted. For our exhibition piece I asked these questions: What was the most important gift you were given, what did you always want but never receive or what gift do you think the world needs? The Artists were free to interpret the project however their muses directed, and were free to extend themselves. There was one rule “keep a sense of play.”

Event Description American Visions: Place and Identity Led by Anita Feldman, Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs, this lecture will look at the the narratives present in the Permanent Collection installation American Visions: Place and Identity. Considering the gradual movement away from European traditions in painting, this lecture will look at the shift toward the formulation of a uniquely American art which redefined man’s relationship to his surroundings. Beginning with the sublime landscapes of the 19th century that depict the country’s vast untamed wilderness in which nature is all powerful and the vulnerability of the human presence is made apparent, the discussion closes with Christo’s Running Fence 1976, in which a colossal curtain dissects the California landscape, asserting a new relationship to our environment. This is the third lecture of the 2015 Friday Morning Lecture & Tour Series. Happening the third Friday of each month, each lecture focuses on works on view and is followed by a docent-led tour.
