Villa Musica welcomes their new Artist in Residence Portia La Touche, featuring her Contemporary Chinese Brush Paintings. Portia is a San Diego artist who applies traditional Chinese brush painting techniques with the energy of contemporary American art esthetic.
The reception is Sunday, Feb. 8, 5-7pm, and will include a musical performance by Villa Musica musicians as well as a performance piece by Portia La Touche with Chinese Dancing Brushes and Villa Musica music. |

In celebration of Balboa Park’s 100th anniversary, the San Diego Art Institute in partnership with artists Kate Clark and Hermione Spriggs will present an afternoon of performance art and life drawing in the Zoro Butterfly Garden in Balboa Park on Sunday, February 8th from 12-2 pm. The Zoro Garden, formerly Zoro Gardens Nudist Colony during the 1935 Panama Pacific Exposition, was home to an unclear number of nudists dedicated to displaying the utopian ideals of Sun Worship, Vegetarianism, and Physical Pageantry.
Two live models in the backdrop of the beautiful grounds designed by architect Richard Requa will serve as subjects for short gestural drawings and long poses for a 2 hour life drawing session facilitated by artists Kate Clark and Hermione Spriggs, featuring a special guest appearance by Alpha the Robot as well as live music accompaniment.
