In complementary support to California Dreaming: An International Portrait of Southern California, OMA and the L Street Fine Art Gallery (located in San Diego’s Gaslamp District) present San Diego Dreaming in spring 2015 at both partner venues. An outgrowth of the California Dreaming jurying process, the joint San Diego Dreaming exhibitions will focus on the San Diego arts community and its interpretation of the “California Dream” by over three dozen prominent and talented San Diego-based artists at the Oceanside Museum of Art. “Although initially unanticipated, it became glaringly obvious in the process of jurying the California Dreaming exhibition that an important and more focused exhibition of talented San Diego artists is fully warranted,” states Daniel Foster. “Thus, these two combined thematic exhibitions directly reflect the museum’s primary programmatic mission to produce outstanding and relevant projects particularly focused upon San Diego and Southern California artists."

Event Description

“The most basic element in an artist’s toolbox is imagination,” says Ruth Jameson. Over twenty years ago, OMA was a “vision” of a possibility in the imaginative minds of only a few individuals. One of those individuals was Ruth Jameson, a local Oceanside artist and visionary. OMA is pleased to present two perspectives on the artistic and creative talents of Ruth Jameson across two gallery spaces, one of Oceanside’s most influential artists over the past few decades. In the Groves Gallery exhibition, Imagination Upwelling presents Jameson’s surrealist paintings in complement with her strong sculptural formalism, clean design, and aesthetic. This exhibition supports the museum’s priority of partnering with the city of Oceanside and civic community on the revitalization and development of Oceanside’s downtown and civic identity.
