Event Description Fifty-one artists have been selected for the Athenaeum’s 27th Annual Juried Exhibition, on view in the Joseph Clayes III and Rotunda galleries, August 4 through September 1, 2018. The opening reception will be held on Friday, August 3, 6:30–8:30 p.m. The event is free to attend for both Athenaeum members and the public. First, second, and third-place honors will be awarded by the jurors before the opening reception. This year’s jurors, Maria Mingalone, Executive Director of the Oceanside Museum of Art, and Rebecca Webb, Special Projects Director of the Oceanside Museum of Art, chose 75 works in sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, and mixed-media, from a record number of over 1,100 images submitted. Event Description Installations at the Station welcomes contemporary figurative artist Hugo Crosthwaite to ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station. An internationally recognized artist, Crosthwaite will create site-specific, outdoor murals to further transform the monochromatic, rigid former military base into a creative space that better reflects the growing arts and cultural destination. Crosthwaite will paint 16 improvisational murals related to the area, its Navy history, and circumstances he encounters each day while on-site from August 3 to 17. Visitors are invited to watch and engage in conversation with the artist as he paints, experiencing the beauty of dialogue through muralism and draftsmanship.
