Event Description |
Along the northeast ridge of Everest lies ‘Rainbow Valley’, a valley named for the many vibrant colored down jackets clothing dead bodies, which peek out of the white snow. Named for this location, this exhibition presents dead climbers painted in the romantic landscape tradition as well as non-traditional mixed media pieces that delve into a personal exploration of egotism. All of these works originate from social media. Trophy photos are transformed in majestic death scenes and carefully curated content disseminated into narrative tangles. Romanticism began the transformation of the traditional vice of egotism, which has reached new heights of social acceptance with the rise of self-promotion and consumerism. Rainbow Valley is a place where we may appreciate the sublime repulsiveness of these shifting social mores. |
