Although monotype printmaking began in the 1640s, this artform continues to evolve. With new water-based inks, specialty papers, acrylic plates and state of the art printmaking presses, you can achieve spectacular results! Join Instructor Dixon Fish for this inspiring, spontaneous, and full of color monotype workshop. Bring your photos, sketches, and art papers to collage your print and leave with original art ready to be framed! Paper, ink and etching presses are provided. If you’d like to make additional prints, printmaking paper (various sizes) will be available for purchase during class. This class is perfect for both beginners and those who want to try something new!

Event Description

Carlos Castro Arias will be exhibiting his newest project, The Splinter in the Eye, an installation composed of paintings and objects in which the artist reflects about memory, trauma, and elements of the individual and collective identity. Carlos Castro Arias is a Colombian artist, professor, and musician. He received a BA from the Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Bogota in 2002 and was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 2008 to the San Francisco Art Institute, where he received an MFA in painting in 2010. Castro has been an associate professor at San Diego State University since 2019. In 2022, the Museo Universitario Universidad de Antioquia, Colombia exhibited a retrospective of his work entitled La Vida de las Cosas Muertas (The Life of Dead Things).

Event Description

Get ready for playtime and have fun making custom paper toys. A few templates will be provided and printed on cardstock. Choose your favorite(s) and illustrate a character or color the template with a pattern or design. We’ll cut, fold, and adhere the designs together to make finished 3D paper toys for display or play. No experience necessary. Scissors can be used in lieu of a craft knife. Materials: The materials fee includes cardstock paper, paper toy template prints, self-healing mat, craft knife, metal ruler, bone folder, tape, glue, and a sample of colored pencils/markers. Optional but recommended: Bring your own favorite markers, pens, pencils, and/or colored pencils if you have a favorite set. We will be using light cardstock paper. If you are not comfortable using a craft knife, please bring scissors.

Event Description

Come and make your own spooky Halloween or festive Holiday Candle house! You will learn how to cut glass, make glass “frit" and create your one-of-a-kind art house. In addition you will make fun accessories for the your “yard" or base. Glass Studio provides ring saws to cut shapes like dogs, cats, ghosts, pumpkins or holiday trees and gifts. Houses are made in two flat layers with cut glass, stringers and glass pieces. Your colorful design will be fired flat and then will be ‘slumped' into over a shaped mold to become 3 sided. Susan will provide some extra components such as a freeze' n fused tombstone and gothic etched fences. There is no limit on creativity!
