Event Description |
Meyer Fine Art, Inc., one of San Diego’s most prestigious fine art galleries, is proud to present its Vintage and Contemporary Poster Exhibit, this year featuring Vintage and Contemporary International and American posters, a collection of rare 19th to 20th century original, first and second printings.
This collection includes posters from 1892 to 1997. The majority of the posters are by anonymous artists, but there are also a diverse group of well-known poster artists represented including Villemot, Razzia, David Klein, Howard Koslow, Cassandre, Warhol and many other anonymous artists.
The posters, intended to only be used for a short period of time, were continually replaced with newer images; pasted on building walls and fences, the street now became a dynamic urban art gallery. The graphics were so attractive that many of the lithographs were quickly stolen. Some that survived destruction deteriorated over the years since they were printed on very thin paper Those that endured in good condition [not ripped off walls or destroyed in printing warehouse purges or lost to the elements] have today become valuable collectibles. Prices
are based on rarity, condition and demand.
