VAF 306 Performance Space, Visual Arts Facility, UC San Diego Daniel Guzmans drawings, paintings, and installations are informed by a slew of sources, including comic books, punk rock, heavy metal, Roberto Bolanos writing, Gabriel Orozcos art, and Mexican mural painting. Exploring his Mexican roots, Guzman focuses on rituals like Aztec bloodletting ceremonies to examine contemporary violence. For a 2009 exhibition, Guzman made a horror film that featured two Mexican intellectuals on the run from a mob of zombies. For New York Dolls (2004), Guzman drew from New York’s punk rock scene, depicting the early 1970s protopunk band of the same name. please RSVP https://www.eventbrite.com/e/daniel-guzman-guest-lecture-tickets-86872346527 |
