The renowned Czech glass artist Radek Stehlik, Chief Curator of the annual exhibition, Karlovy Vary Art in Glass will display the unique molten artistry of the region, which is famed for its crystal, china and art glass.
Most people have only seen Carlsbad’s sister city, Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic in the recent James Bond film, “Casino Royale” or last year’s comedy starring Queen Latifa, “Last Holiday.” The 700-year-old resort town is a popular movie location because of its beautiful avenues and historic buildings, winding along a charming river in a forested gorge.
But on Saturday, January 27th, everyone can get a personal tour led by Karlovy Vary City Architect Vaclav Kouba and artist Radek Stehlik. Projecting historic and current photographs, Mr. Kouba will introduce Hapsburg Empire plazas and colonnades, late nineteenth century spas and concert halls, the strong Art Nouveau influence of the great Czech artist Alphonse Mucha, and the contemporary design linking past and present in this unspoiled jewel of another era.
Information will also be available about a tour to include karlovy Vary in 2007, open to all travelers.
