The Ordover Gallery is pleased to present The World of Ira Block, April 16 - July 19, 2009 at the gallery's Solana Beach location. A National Geographic photographer for thirty years, Block has also won numerous awards from the National Press Photographer's Association. The Ordover Gallery will display an outstanding collection of Block's dynamic and eclectic photographs, ranging from dancing Geishas in Japan to workmen on shrimp boats in the Gulf of Mexico. The public is invited to meet Ira Block during the opening reception on Saturday, April 18, 5pm - 8pm.
A master photojournalist, Block specializes in storytelling through photography. He excels at capturing people within their distinct environment. In his image, Locals Carrying Plants at Pelican Cay in Eleuthera, The Bahamas, Block creates an otherworldly rendition of man, plant, sea and sky. Block also adeptly captures events, places and nature. A resident of New York City, Block's photojournalism includes the terrorist destruction of the twin towers, the clearing of ground zero, and the illumination of the night sky with twin beams of light. The Ordover Gallery will also show Shona sculpture by Spirits in Stone, glass by Dick Ditore and ceramic sculpture by Charles Sherman. Fine art photography by Abe Ordover, Peter Fay and Lisa Ross, as well as paintings by Saphire, will be on view. The gallery will show handmade jewelry by Saphire.
