SAN DIEGO, CA – Classic words of wisdom are used daily to inspire hope, reason and contemplation. This exhibition, “Works of Wisdom” at Thumbprint Gallery beginning January 14, presents works by an eclectic mix of artists using famous quotes as their stimulus.
Not to be missed is the work of Mike Maxwell. This San Diego born artist has exhibited all over the world and recently exhibited at the pioneering art platform Art Basel in Miami. Stone blue faces devoid of skin tone are Maxwell’s signature figure that enables him to explore themes of race, sex and religion with an abstract style. His use of colour is thoughtful and poignant, while emphasizing his message. He frequently uses black and white with a strong, cold blue typically on his subject’s skin but also in scenes of isolated windmills and buildings.
