Activist City Heights Free Skool
Our mission here at the City Heights Free Skool is to facilitate a learning exchange for individuals who want to learn in an open environment. Students are encouraged to follow their own interests.
Our Principles include: * Inclusiveness of all, regardless of educational experience, * Everyone is a teacher and everyone is a student, * Community-based learning, * Providing learning opportunities in a free, open and non-hierarchical environment, * Integrating practical skills and personal experiences into education,* Classes are free.
The Free Skool is designed to stimulate curiosity and encourage cooperation. We believe that the most meaningful learning occurs in an atmosphere allowing opportunities for students to be self-directed, self-motivated and self-disciplined. We are a resource that provides free alternative educational opportunities to people of all ages and backgrounds. The City Heights Free Skool along with Activist San Diego works for profound social change by serving as a model for education in the future. Programs that we are implementing for the fall and winter season are:
* Free English classes
* Free Job Development Classes
* Afterschool Tutoring
* Community organic garden
* Various workshops, film nights and other community events, including a venue for ARTists and ART related exhibitions and events.
