Spotlight Exhibitions in 2010

San Diego Visual Arts Network is announcing the third year of the New Contemporaries exhibition to be held at Project X in Solana Beach from April 24 to May 22, 2010. Nominations are made by Artists from 2009 SD Art Prize, SD Art Prize Art Notes Writers, the SD Art Prize committee, Project X: Art director Chris Martino.

A special guest nominator was selected from our public call for nominators: Teri Sowell – Director of Exhibitions and Collections, Oceanside Museum of Art . The following criteria were used for this guest nominator:

  • All Nominators will be writing about their nominee who is a local Avant Guarde artist i.e. one who is current and important in our day. We see these nominators as Champions of the artist they nominate.
  • Nominators have never nominated an artist before for the SD Art Prize or New Contemporaries show
  • All nominated artists will be included if they accept our invitation to show at Project X in Solana Beach from April 24 to May 22, 2010.

We are highlighting the SD Art Prize: New Contemporaries featuring Artist nominated in the emerging category for the SD Art Prize 2009 and we hope that many of you will attend the reception at Noel-Baza Fine Art and see the exhibition. There is a wide range of mediums represented as well as a range of age and experience. The most important point is that not all these names are known to all of us. We are celebrating the excellence of these artists and the high quality of the artwork nominated. We encourage you to see some of these artists with more indpeth exhibitions. Emerging artist definition: artist who are emerging with new, fresh ideas. This is not about the age of the artists or the exposure they have had, but what art they are creating now and in the past three to five years. We think of these artists as emerging from the darkness into the light of the public view.
