- Enormous thanks to Doug Rowe for helping us to install the new ReCapCha system on our website. This has saved us from the invasion of the spam robots who were flooding the site with listings. reCAPTCHA now appears on the site for our directories and for our mailing list for first time listee only. The wonderful thing about this particular software is that is also aids a program to digitize books, newspapers and old time radio shows. reCAPTCHA improves the process of digitizing books by sending words that cannot be read by computer Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to the Web in the form of CAPTCHAs for humans to decipher. More specifically, each word that cannot be read correctly by OCR is placed on an image and used as a CAPTCHA. When you decipher it, that info is sent back to be digitized for those books and newspapers etc. Cool, huh! Now we are all helping and that makes the extra effort a bit easier to take.
